Make the Light: TEDxUbud Returns for 2017

TEDxUbud returns to Bali on Saturday, May 20th, 2017, with the theme ‘Make the Light’ at the 6th edition of this event. This year TEDxUbud 2017 is exploring new frontiers and creating a whole new experience: a night event at a new venue— Setia Darma House of Masks and Puppets in Ubud, Bali - a unique museum with a mission to preserve some of Indonesia’s most colorful heritage.

For those not aware of TEDx events, they stem from the world-renowned TED talks and conferences that started 35 years ago. Originally discussions on technology, entertainment and design, since their beginning in 1984 topics have diversified to include everything from politics and society to unique musical performances - now the talks ban-together under the TED motto of ‘ideas worth spreading’. The TEDx events, like TEDxUbud, are independently organised TED talks that showcase a range of short, meaningful talks from a hand-selected group of speakers. This year, TEDxUbud 2017 takes on the theme of ‘Make the Light’, with speakers exploring ideas that surround light and dark – emphasized by the fact this will be TEDxUbud’s first evening event.

Speakers include a scientist working with fire, a mosquito whisperer (mosquitoes' activity peaks during the dusk hours), the inventor of the first commercial astronomy camera coming from Singapore, the founder of one of Indonesia’s unicorn startups just praised by NASA, a member of the International BBC 100 Women List flying in from Jakarta, a visual artist who can bend light to his will, a band with a Rolling Stone Indonesia Top Album of 2016 credit to its name, a fascinating Japanese contemporary dancer, and a famous shadow puppeteer, the program is packed with bold new looks at intriguing topics. It’s set to be yet another amazing TEDxUbud event.
